    摘要： A wear member (12) for attachment to excavating equipment comprises a front end (44), a rear end (46) and a socket (16) that opens in the rear end (46) for receiving a base (14) fixed to the excavating equipment. The socket (16) includes a main portion (56) having an upper side (58) and a lower side (56) each having a central facet (64, 68) and two opposite side facets (66, 70) each transversely inclined to the corresponding central facet, the upper central facet (64) having a width that expands in a rearward direction. The lower central facet (68) has a width that narrows in a rearward direction. The side facets (70) of the lower side (60) axially extend substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis to bear against the base and resist certain loads, and are transversely angled to resist vertical and side loads.

    摘要： Incorporating hard particles in a matrix forming the surface of a member can significantly increase wear resistance. Practical use of diamond in industrial applications is limited as the carbon structure breaks down to graphite in air at temperatures over 700°C. When exposed to molten iron the diamond surface can also chemically react and dissolve into the iron. Metal compounds that coat the diamond can provide one or more protective layers that limit contact of the diamond surface with elements that will degrade its structure. Coating can also provide a wettable surface for the molten matrix during processing to improve retention of the particle in the matrix.

    摘要： A wear assembly for excavating equipment includes a base fixed to the excavating equipment, a wear member fit over the base, and a lock to releasably hold the wear member to the base. The wear member includes side relief to reduce drag on the system. The wear member and the base each includes a hemispherical front end and a generally trapezoidal rear portion. The base includes a nose and a stop projecting from the nose to cooperate with the lock without an opening being needed to receive the lock into the nose. The lock is an elongate lock positioned generally in an axial direction and which holds the wear member to the base under compressive loads.

The supporting portion is formed with top and bottom recesses that receive complementary projections of the wear member. These recesses and projections include aligned holes so as to receive and position the lock centrally within the wear assembly and remote from the wear surface. The hole in the wear member is defined by a wall that includes a retaining structure provided with an upper bearing surface and a lower bearing surface for contacting and retaining the lock against upward and downward movement in the hole.
