The invention relates to a locking system, particularly for providing authorization to access and/or drive a motor vehicle. Said locking system comprises a first device (4), such as a control device for unlocking and/or locking the car doors, the ignition lock, the steering wheel lock, for releasing and/or blocking the immobilizer, the engine control apparatus or similar, said first device (4) having at least two conditions and being embodied as a control device, and an associated second device (5) which is embodied in the form of an electronic key, an identifier, a chip card or similar. In order to be appropriately operated, the two devices (4, 5) encompass transmission means (17, 20) and/or receiving means (18, 21) for electromagnetic signals (7) having frequencies (v) which range within a frequency band that is located between two threshold frequencies (va, vb). At least one of the signals (7) transmitted between the second device (5) and the first device (4) is an encoded operating signal (15) for authenticating the second device (5) such that the condition of the first device (4) can be modified in the authorized second device (5) once the transmitted operating signal (15) has been evaluated in a positive manner. The real frequency (vi) at which the transmission means (17) of the second device (5) is operated is stored in a storage medium (25) of the first device (4).
