The use of a tray (V) in plastic material is described for packaging foods susceptible of releasing liquids, in which such tray (V) is made of a sheet (4) of an expanded plastic material of high water permeability, preferably open-celled, as well as a modified atmosphere packaging comprising such tray and a method for manufacturing such packaging.
