Disclosed is a machine (1) for manipulating a coke oven (2) encompassing a plurality of adjacent coking chambers. Said machine (1) comprises a sucking device (3) for withdrawing emissions discharged from an open coking chamber, a door lifting mechanism (4), and other optional coke oven manipulating devices. In order to manipulate the coking chambers, the coke oven manipulating machine (1) is arranged so as to be movable relative to the coking chambers along a coke oven (2) gallery (5). In order to shield the gallery (5) from wind in the zone of a coking chamber that is to be operated, at least two adjacent windshield walls (9) which extend substantially transversal to the gallery (5) in the direction of the coking chamber in at least some areas are provided to form a shielded zone (10). Furthermore, the sucking device (3), the door lifting mechanism (4), and other coke oven manipulating devices are positioned between the adjacent windshield walls (9) while the windshield walls (9) are placed at a distance from each other such that the door lifting mechanism (4) and the optional other coke oven manipulating devices can be operated within the shielded zone (10).
