A valve device (6) having a soft start valve (21) is proposed. The soft start valve (21) has a main valve which can be switched between a basic position, a soft start position and a working position. A pilot control valve which supplies a fluid pilot control signal is responsible for switching over into the soft start position and into the working position. Said fluid pilot control signal is switched directly to the main valve (24) for switching over into the soft start position and additionally indirectly via a switchover valve (26) for switching over into the working position, the operating state of which switchover valve (26) is determined by the secondary pressure which prevails in a secondary channel (2).
