The invention relates to a process for producing a profile with a cross section of different thicknesses from a flat metal strip (7) by means of roll-profiling. In this process, a roller pair (2.1, 2.2) produces at least one first recess on at least one side of the metal strip (7), said recess being widened by following roller pairs with incrementally enlarged recess width to form a region with a reduced material thickness (12.1, 12.2). The aim of the invention is to improve the production process, in particular to avoid the formation of undulations during the production of the profile. For this purpose, the invention provides that regions of the flat metal strip (7) which are arranged adjacent to the at least one recess (9.1, 9.2) are bent up before and/or during intervention by a roller pair (2.1, 2.2).
