This invention has as its object to set a communication parameter allowing wireless communication between a wireless communication device on the information transmitting side and a wireless communication device that receives and processes the information. To this end, when the user inputs an instruction to both a digital camera and printer having wireless communication functions, these devices execute parameter communication processes within an allowable time period. When the devices can detect each other within that time period, a communication parameter to be used in a second communication mode is communicated in a fast communication mode. After that, the devices start communication in the second communication mode (e.g. infrastructure) using the parameter that was previously communicated in the first communication mode (e.g. ad-hoc) which is then disconnected.
