The invention relates to a method for storing a fuel cell, that comprises a first phase of calibrating a reference membrane by nuclear magnetic resonance in order to obtain an evolution curve of the maximal water load (λ
max (T)) of the fuel cell membrane based on the temperature of the membrane (3), and a second step of calibrating a standard cell in order to obtain a relation between the electric resistance of the standard cell, the water load (λ) of the its membrane and its temperature (T). The method further comprises a drying phase that depends on the two calibration phases.
