A set of oligonucleotides for use in determining the presence of Legionella pneumophila in a sample, said set of oligonucleotides comprising: a first amplification oligonucleotide, wherein the base sequence of said first amplification oligonucleotide is selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:87, the RNA equivalent of SEQ ID NO:87, and the full complement(s) thereof; a second amplification oligonucleotide, wherein the base sequence of said second amplification oligonucleotide is selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO:71, the RNA equivalent of SEQ ID NO:71, and the full complement(s) thereof, and, optionally, a 5' promoter sequence; and a detection probe comprising a target complementary region, wherein the base sequence of said target complementary region is selected from the group consisting of the target complementary region of SEQ ID NO:88, the DNA equivalent of the target complementary region of SEQ ID NO:88, and the full complement(s) thereof.
