The invention relates to a method for operating a lambda probe for determining the concentration of gaseous components in the exhaust gas of internal combustion engines. Said method is characterised by the following steps: the internal resistance is determined; the internal resistance is compared to a resistance threshold value which can be predetermined; the pump voltage is applied when the resistance threshold value is exceeded.
