The invention relates to a method and device for separating foreign bodies from a first tobacco flow (13), wherein the first tobacco flow (13) is transported in the region of a first foreign body detecting device by means of an air flow (12, 32, 32', 34'), and wherein foreign bodies (17) in the first tobacco flow (13) are detected by means of the first foreign body detection device (20) using at least one property, and then removed from the first tobacco flow (13) by a shot of compressed air (28), so that the first tobacco flow (13) having the foreign bodies (17) removed and a second flow (50) of tobacco particles (15) and foreign bodies carried along by the compressed air shot (18) are formed. The method according to the invention is characterized in that the second flow (50) is accelerated apart from the first tobacco flow (13) and/or foreign bodies (17) are detected again in the second flow (50) by a second foreign body detecting device (24), using at least one property, and then removed by means of a compressed air shot (28'). The device according to the invention is characterized in that a channel (23, 44) is provided through which the second flow (50) can be guided, wherein the channel (23, 44) is designed tapering down in the transport direction (19) at least in segments, and/or a second foreign body detecting device (24) and a second foreign body ejection device (25) are provided downstream of the second foreign body detecting device (24), comprising a second nozzle device (25) by means of which the foreign bodies (17) can be removed from the second flow (50).
