The invention relates to a method for welding half shells (1, 2, 3, 4) and thus a method for producing large volume components, such as an inner housing for a steam turbine, wherein two half shells (1, 2) are connected to each other forming a tube-like cross section, and are welded by means of a girth weld (12) to two further half shells (3, 4) that are connected to each other.
