The invention relates to a valve for controlling fluids, comprising a valve body (2) with a passage opening (4), a tapering valve seat (5) formed on the valve body (2), a closing element (3) which opens up and closes off the passage opening (4) at the valve seat (5), and a protruding region (6) which adjoins the valve seat (5), wherein the protruding region (6) extends over only part of the circumference of the valve seat (5).
