A hoisting machine is provided having a load hoisting motor (41) and a speed reduction mechanism (27,31,32) and driving the load hoisting motor (41) with an inverter (12) disposed in a control box (10) attached to a side surface of a speed reduction mechanism casing (15), wherein a hoisting machine main body casing (21) housing a load sheave (33) is attached to a surface of the speed reduction mechanism casing (15) on a side thereof remote from the control box (10), a motor casing (40) housing the load hoisting motor (41) is attached to a surface of the hoisting machine main body casing (21) on a side thereof remote from the speed reduction mechanism casing (15), the speed reduction mechanism casing (15) is made of an aluminum material and disposed such that a part of an outer surface of the speed reduction mechanism casing (15) is in direct contact with surrounding air, the speed reduction mechanism casing (15) has, on a side thereof closer to the control box (10), a planar inverter mounting surface with which a side surface of the inverter (12) is brought into close contact, the inverter (12) is attached to the inverter mounting surface of the speed reduction mechanism casing (15) with the side surface thereof brought into close contact with the inverter mounting surface, and the speed reduction mechanism casing (15) is filled therein with lubricating oil.
