A metrological scale track strip comprising a plurality of projections spaced along its length which are configured such that when the track strip is mounted on a substrate, portions of a metrological scale can be received under the projections and retained against the substrate by the projections, and in which said projections permit movement of the scale along its length with respect to the track strip.
