The invention relates to a locating system, comprising at least one hand-held locating sensor (11a; 11b; 11c), which is provided for capturing locating data related to objects to be located (13a; 13b; 13c) that are hidden under an examination surface (12a; 12b; 12c), a position sensor (14a; 14b; 14c), which is provided for capturing position data, which can be associated with the locating data, and an evaluating unit (15a; 15b; 15c), which is provided for determining at least two-dimensional map information from the locating data and the position data and providing said at least two-dimensional map information. According to the invention, the locating system comprises at least one data source (16a, 17a, 19a-26a; 16b, 17b, 19b-26b; 16c, 17c, 19c-26c), which is provided for providing data for the purpose of a modification of the at least two-dimensional map information.
