The invention relates to a device for controlling a hydraulic machine (1) of a power train and to a method for controlling the hydraulic machine (1). The invention also relates to a control device capable of assessing the increase in the masking noise generated by variation of the actual speed of the vehicle and determining a limit to the operating state of the hydraulic machine (1) on the basis of the actual speed of the vehicle. The invention is of use in a vehicle including a hydraulic machine.
