The present invention relates to a gate driver for a semiconductor, which is configured for controlling the switching of the semiconductor (100) by means of control of the injection and extraction of charges in the gate (G) of said semiconductor (100). The driver (200) comprises a sensor (3) adapted for measuring the voltage (V 100 ) between the drain (D) and the source (S) of the semiconductor (100), and an actuation unit communicated with the sensor (3) and configured for receiving said voltage (V 100 ). The actuation unit is configured for adapting the charge injection or extraction speed in the gate (G) of the semiconductor (100) for switching it, said speed depending on the value of the voltage received from the sensor (3) at the time in which switching is required. The invention also relates to a switching method.
