PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent die breakage or a shortened die life due to fatigue in a rack molding method for a hollow rack shaft and in a die therefor. SOLUTION: Dies 1 and 2 each have recessed portions 12, so that pads if produced, flows into the recessed portions 12 to form protrusions 13 on a workpiece 4. The flow prevents such excessive force in the dies 1 and 2 as occurs when they are filled with a material. The protrusions 13 pose no drawback to geared transmission.
