PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Escherichia coli PGD variant having a reduced susceptibility to inhibition by serine compared with Escherichia coli wild-type. SOLUTION: This object is achieved by means of a PGD which has an amino acid sequence which differs from the amino acid sequence of the Escherichia coli wild-type PGD (comprising a specific sequence) having a methionine as position 1, in that an amino acid apart from glycine is present at position 349 or an amino acid apart from threonine is present at position 372.
