PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for synthesis of 3-(2-bromo-4,5-dimethoxyphenyl)propanenitrile of the formula (I), and a process of application of the compound to synthesis of ivabradine and addition salts with pharmaceutically acceptable acid.SOLUTION: Provided is a process for synthesis of a compound of the formula (I), in which a compound of the formula (VIII) is subjected to the action of N-bromosuccinimide in the presence of an organic solvent to yield the compound of the formula (I).
