The extension has an extension body and a friction surface that presses against the extension body to prevent movement of the extension body. The extension also includes a retainer that engages a retainer catch attached to the extension body to releasably hold the extension body in a retraced position, thereby allowing for one-handed operation and easy transportation of the ladder.
