In some aspects, a base station may include a transceiver configured to map beam reference signals onto a plurality of transmission beams. The base station may further include a control module configured to divide the transmission beams into a plurality of groups, based at least in part on a plurality of logical indexes assigned to the transmission beams. The control module may be further be configured to divide the transmission beams of each of the groups into a plurality of sub-groups. The control module may be further configured to change a transmission beam order in at least one of the groups, in order to equalize and maximize logical index differences between transmission beams, which are adjacent to one another in a respective sub-group.
