Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may detect a beam failure associated with a cell of a plurality of cells. The UE may selectively transmit a beam failure recovery request (BFRQ) communication for the cell based at least in part on a determination of whether a threshold time period has elapsed since a previous BFRQ communication was transmitted for the cell or another cell of the plurality of cells.
