This disclosure provides systems, methods, and devices for wireless communication that support closed-loop transmit power control (TPC) for user equipment (UE) sidelink communications. TPC information may be provided, by a first UE receiving transmissions from a second UE, with respect to a sidelink implemented between the UEs. TPC information may be multiplexed with sidelink data traffic in a sidelink communication between UEs. The TPC information may include a TPC indicator and one or more TPC messages for providing TPC commands with respect to one or more sidelinks. The sidelink data traffic of some examples may include data-only traffic, such as semi-persistent scheduled (SPS) data traffic, that is decoupled from accompanying sidelink control information (SCI).
