A non-colorant hair treatment composition comprising a styling compound of formula (1); wherein n is any integer from 0 to 6, R1 is a H, OH, alkyl, alkoxide group or salts thereof; R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are independently selected from OH, H, C1-C4 alkyl groups or mixtures thereof such that the total number of OH groups of R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 is such that when R2 is an OH group R5 is also an OH group; preferably a dihydroxybenzoic acid or dihydroxybenzaldehyde; in which the composition comprises less than 2 wt % of a starch or starch derivative.
