Methods are disclosed relating to generating a silene-free slide comprising the steps of providing a plastic substrate; providing a solution of acrylamide comprising N-(5-bromoacetamidylpentyl) acrylamide (BRAPA); contacting the acrylamide/BRAPA solution with a polymerizing agent; contacting the acrylamide/BRAPA solution with an oxidizing agent; and contacting the acrylamide/BRAPA/polymerizing agent/oxidizing agent to the plastic substrate.
