[Also in Division B8] Score lines 15, 16, Fig. 4 (not shown), which may be continuous to form a removable portion in a can end, are reduced in cross-sectional area over a limited part by punching-out a recess 24 between the score lines, thereby causing the metal of the can end to flow outwards from the recess 24 and into the space at 25 resulting from the formation of the score lines. Ribs 27, 28 are formed adjacent and outside the score lines, Fig. 2 (not shown). The reduced areas of the score lines increase resistance of the removable portion to being torn out by means of a pull tab (see Division B8) riveted thereto.
