The present invention provides an improved blow molded plastic non-round container having generally rectangular sidewalls that are adapted for hot-fill applications. The hot-fill container has two adjacent sides one with a vacuum panel and the other with a series of ribs in the label mounting area on the sidewalls. The opposing sidewalls are symmetric relative to the vacuum panel and rib shape and placement. The ribs and vacuum panel cooperate to resist container upon filling and cooling and also improves bumper denting resistance, ease of manufacture and light weight capability.

A flexible pouch for packaging a product, such as a carbonated beverage, is provided that includes a front panel and a back panel each having an upper edge, a lower edge opposite the upper edge, and side edges extending therebetween the upper and lower edges. The pouch includes a first closing seal extending along an upper edge of the joined front and back panel formed a predetermined length from the open edge so that there is no dead space inside the pouch between the product and the first closing seal and a second closing seal outside the first closing seal, to form a pocket trapping some of the product between the first closing seal and the second closing seal. A method of forming and filling the pouch includes the steps of forming each panel and joining two panels by scaling together the side edges and lower edge. The method also includes the steps of opening the pouch and filling the pouch with the product. The method further includes the steps of closing the filled pouch by forming a first closing seal extending along an upper edge of the pouch a predetermined length from the upper edge, such that there is no dead space inside the pouch between the product and the first closing seal, and forming a second seal between the first closing seal and the upper edge thereby trapping the product between the first closing seal and the second closing seal, and finishing the pouch.

The present invention is directed toward molded plastic re-sealable closures (1, 31) for use with a fluent dispensing container (2). The closures (1, 31) each have a rupturing member (12) and a cover (19) on whose initial opening causes the rupturing member to tear a tearable sealing to form a generally rectangular fluent exit aperture (4), and secures the torn away material remote from the fluent exit aperture to prevent it from blocking same during subsequent re-openings and re-sealings. The present invention is also directed to screw cap assemblies (41, 61) similar to the closures (1,31) but each having an axially displaceable puncturing member and a cap on whose initial unscrewing causes the puncturing member to puncture a tearable sealing to form a generally circular fluent exit aperture. A package (10+20+30) for contact lenses (10), especially ‘daily-disposable’ lenses, in which the overall volume of the package and the internal volumes of the lens-holding cavities (20) in the package are minimised. Volume minimisation is achieved by giving the lens package at least two of the following characteristics: (a) each cavity (10) is generally circularly symmetrical; (b) the concave internal surface (24) of each cavity (20) is formed with a radius (R (P)) that is within 200 microns of the radius of curvature (R (L)) of the convex outer surface (12) of the contact lens (10) held in that cavity (20), to give a ratio (R (P)/R (L)) of these two radii that is less than 1.2, and preferably less than 1.1; (c) each cavity (20) is formed with a sagittal (axial) height (SAG (P)) such that when each cavity (20) is loaded with a respective single contact lens (10) having a sagittal height (SAG (L)), together with a quantity of preservative fluid sufficient to about half-fill the cavity (20) and then sealed by adhering a vapour-impermeable foil (30), the vertical clearance in the loaded and sealed cavity (20) is less than 2.5 millimetres and the ratio (SAG (P)/SAG (L)) of sagittal heights is less than 1.6; (d) the internal clearance diameter (OD (P)) of each cavity rim flange (28) and the diameter (OD (L)) of each contact lens (10) have a ratio (OD (P)/OD (L)) that is less than 1.4, and preferably less than 1.2. A cap with a tamper-evident ring is designed to snap engage a container that is provided with an upper and lower bead. A ring of teeth provided along an inside skirt of the cap engage teeth located along an inside wall of the container. When the cap is snapped onto the container, both sets of teeth automatically engage and a plug seal provided on the cap engages the container upper bead. By turning the cap clockwise or counterclockwise, the side angles of the teeth force the cap to disengage upwards over the upper bead and unsnap from the container. When the closure is opened for the first time, the ring breaks away from the cap and slides down the container below the lower bead, which keeps the ring from coming off the container and provides evidence that the cap had been opened.
