A METHOD FOR PRODUCING A POLYPROPYLENE COMPOSITION HAVING A MELT ELASTICITY (SWELL) VALUE BETWEEN 1.5 AND 3.0 COMPRISES CONTACTING THE POLYPROPYLENE WITH OXYGEN, HEATING THE POLYPROPYLENE IN THE FEED-END OF AN EXTRUDERREACTOR AT TEMPERATURE BETWEEN 600* AND 1,000*F. AND THEN COOLING THE POLYPROPYLENE TO A MELT TEMPERATURE NOT IN EXCESS OF 600*F. A POLYPROPYLENE COMPOSITION HAVING A MELT ELASTICITY (SWELL) OF LESS THAN 3.0 HAS A MOLECULAR WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION WHICH IS VERY NARROW AS COMPARED TO COMMERICAL POLYPROPYLENE COMPOSITIONS.
