Compounds which are substituted 1-hydroxyalkyl-azolyl derivatives of the general formula ##STR1## in which A represents a nitrogen atom or a CH group,B represents oxygen, sulphur or a CH.sub.2 group,R represents substituted alkyl, and, in the case in which B represents sulphur, also represents an unsubstituted alkyl, optionally substituted cycloalkyl or optionally substituted phenyl group,Z represents a halogen atom or an alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, halogenoalkyl, halogenoalkoxy, halogenoalkylthio, optionally substituted phenyl, optionally substituted phenoxy, optionally substituted phenylalkyl or optionally substituted phenylalkoxy group, andm is 0, 1, 2 or 3,and the acid addition salts and metal salt complexes thereof, are new, are prepared as described and find use as fungicides and plant growth regulators.
