The indicator comprises a scale plate having a pointer rotatably mounted thereon, indicia provided on the scale plate and containing fluroescent brigthener, the indicia indicating a specific value in cooperation with the pointer, a single ultraviolet light source for illuminating the indicia, and technique for equalizing the brightness of the indicia.The equalizing technique can comprises varying the quantity of fluorescent brigtener contained in the indicia according to the distance from the ultraviolet light source of the indicia.
