An image forming apparatus includes a movable photosensitive member having a photosensitive layer of an organic photoconductor, a device for forming an image on a surface of the photosensitive member, a device for transferring the image formed on the photosensitive member by the image forming device onto a transfer material, the transfer device including a rotatable transfer member having a dielectric surface for moving the transfer material while contacting it to the surface of the image bearing member at a transfer position and an electrode for forming an electric field, the electrode being contacted to a surface of the rotatable transfer member remote from the photosensitive member.
