A silver halide color photographic material is described comprising a support having provided thereon one or more red-sensitive silver halide emulsion layers, one or more green sensitive silver halide emulsion layers and one or more blue-sensitive silver halide emulsion layers wherein the average silver iodide content of silver halide in all the silver halide emulsion layers is not less than 10 mol% and the silver halide color photographic material contains a compound represented by the following general formula (I):Q--SM.sup.1 (I)wherein Q represents a heterocyclic group having at least one group selected from --SO.sub.3 M.sup.2, --COOM.sup.2, --OH and --NR.sup.1 R.sup.2 directly or indirectly connected thereto; M.sup.1 and M.sup.2 each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal, a quaternary ammonium or a quaternary phosphonium; and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each represents a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group.A process for processing the silver halide color photographic material is also described.The silver halide color photographic material is improved in graininess and desilvering properties and has good resistance to natural and artificial radio-active rays.
