The invention relates to compounds represented by formula 1a or 1b ##STR1## and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.8, R.sub.9, and n are as described herein.These compounds are useful as agents in treating herpes virus infections.
