An internal combustion engine-driven discharge lamp lighting apparatus including an internal combustion engine and a generator driven by the internal combustion engine to generate an output voltage and capable of lighting a high-voltage discharge lamp such as a high-voltage mercury lamp, a metal halide lamp or the like without using any ballast including a leakage transformer, to thereby eliminate problems due to incorporation of the ballast therein.
