A process for preparing compounds of formula (I) comprising radical addition of RfI to 3-(allyloxy)methyl-3-alkyloxetane (1) wherein R is C1-3 alkyl and Rf is C1-18 linear or branched fluoroalkyl. The compounds of formula (I) are useful as intermediates for preparing various fluorine-containing functional materials.
