Abstract:
The present invention provides molecules and methods for fluorescent microscopy and visualization of biomolecules, such as cholesterol. In a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a compound having the structure: wherein R1 and R2 are selected from the group consisting of H, CnH2n+1, (CH2)mNH2, (CH2)mNH—SO2—R′, and CH2CH2OCH2CH2NH2 wherein n has a value between 4 and 18, wherein m has a value between 2 and 8, and wherein R′ is selected from the group consisting of CH3, C6H5, C6H4CH3, C6H4CO2H and its cyclic imide, C6H4Br, anthraquinon-2-yl, and 5-formyl-2-furyl, 2-carboxyphenyl.
