Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, are provided for adapting processing in a distributed computing system based on automatically detected changes caused by virtualization. In one aspect, the computer-implemented method includes detecting whether one or more changes occur at a cluster of a distributed computing system. The one or more changes may be caused by a virtualization system. Moreover, the one or more changes may correspond to at least one of a quantity of processors at the cluster, a quantity of memory at the cluster, a quantity of bandwidth among nodes of the cluster, and a storage speed.
