The shape extraction section 46 detects a change in relative distance from the irradiation means to the object in accordance with a change in luminance values of pixels constituting the object area. The present invention is applicable to a computer that extracts a shape of a portion of a body of the user from, for example, a captured image obtained by capturing an image of the user.
