Abstract:
A shingle (52, 53) and a method of and apparatus for making the shingle is provided, whereby patches (26, 27, 28, 30, etc.) of preselected granules (18, 25, 40) or combinations of granules (25, 40) are provided, separated by transverse areas (33) of different, preferably darker granules (18), having slots (48) centrally thereof, to yield the appearance of multi-tab (50) shingles that are thicker than they actually are, with transverse shadow lines (39). A longitudinal shadow line (41, 42) is optionally provided, along the upper and/or lower portion of the exposed tab (50).
