Vehicles and other objects (4a, 4b, 4c, 5, 6, 7, 8), for example, in a surface mine (1), are equipped with range cameras (12). A control unit (13) of such object (4a, 4b, 4c, 5, 6, 7, 8) receives signals representative of range images from these at least two range cameras (12). The at least two range images are evaluated and a subset of range images is selected from the range images available subject to the result of the evaluation. A control signal is provided to the display (19) for displaying image information stemming from the one or more range cameras (12) in charge of providing the one or more range images selected for the subset. By such method, the most relevant scene in terms of collision avoidance can be displayed to the personnel in charge.
