The invention relates to a method for producing a coated substrate element and to an embossing tool for carrying out the method. In a first step, a substrate material is introduced into a cavity of a mold embossing tool. Then the mold embossing tool is set to an enlarged cavity to form a flooding gap. A flooding material is introduced into the enlarged cavity. Then an embossing step is carried out, in which the enlarged cavity is reduced in order to emboss the flooding material. According to the invention, the flooding material is introduced into the cavity at a position of the embossing tool that lies in a non-visible area of the installed product in the subsequent product. Furthermore, the embossing tool is heated in an area in which shrinkage gaps form during the hardening process of the substrate element.
