An electronic device may receive a first user input on a portion of a background image on a screen, detect at least one object or at least one face in response to the first user input made on the portion of the background image, determine a level of the first user input, display, by a display of the electronic device, at least one application based on the determined level of the first user input, and perform an action corresponding to an application selected among the at least one application.
