A modular boost converter assembly includes a fuel cell (100), a modular boost converter (102), a battery (104), a motor (106), and a capacitor (108). The modular boost converter (102) includes a plurality of modules (110), (112), (114). Each of the plurality of modules (110), (112), (114) include a boost system. Only one converter (102) is necessary to utilize each of the fuel cell (100) and the capacitor (108). The single converter (102) can have a capacity to convert power greater than the energy of the fuel cell (100), but the total output power of the converter (102) is less than the total energy provided by the fuel cell (100) and the capacitor (108) combined. The modular boost converter (102) utilizes internal module switching to selectively draw energy from at least one of the fuel cell (100) and the capacitor (108).
