    摘要: A sodium-sulphur storage battery having improved gastightness is obtained by providing the negative and positive covers (2, 3), which are thermocompressively jointed to the upper and lower surfaces respectively of an alpha alumina ring (1), with diffusion layers of chrome over their surfaces and with coating layers of aluminium on at least the parts of their surfaces which are thermocompressively jointed. As oxidation of the jointing surfaces is minimal, the thermocompressively jointing of the negative and positive covers (2, 3) to the ring (1) can be carried out in air thereby facilitating production of the batteries.
    The covers (2, 3) may be made from stainless steel, iron or alloy of iron and nickel. The chrome layers may be about 20g to 120µ in thickness, and the aluminium layers may be about 5µ to 90µ in thickness.

    摘要: A liquid container which comprises a rigid or semi-rigid housing (3), a charging and discharging opening defined by a mouth (3a) of the housing for permitting the passage of liquid content into or out of the container, a flexible and open-ended bag (2) suspended from the housing opening, and valve means (4, 5, 5a, 6) for controlling the charging and discharging of the liquid content of the bag (2) via the opening. The bag (2) is made of an elastomeric material and is of sufficient wall strength to expand without rupture within the confines of the housing (3) from a relaxed contracted state (2a) upon charging of the bag with liquid, and is returnable to its contracted state by its own inherent resilience in order to discharge its liquid content. To facilitate the expansion and contraction of the flexible bag (2), a pressure control valve (8) communicates with the internal space (3b) defined between the exterior of the bag (2) and the internal wall of the housing (3), the control valve (8) being operable manually or automatically to allow venting of the internal space (3b) during expansion of the bag (2) as it is charged with liquid, and also functions normally as a one-way valve which allows ingress of ambient air to the internal space (3b) as the bag (2) contracts during liquid discharge.

    摘要: Apparatus for and a method of filling a chain of successively connected bag containers, each closed at its bottom end with successive ones seamed at adjacent side edges, the chain defining sleeve means along the upper edge thereof, above said side seams. The invention comprises moving the chain of containers along a process line, from a source thereof to a discharge point, with said sleeve means uppermost, past a filling station having a filling head operable to charge flowable material received from a source thereof, from a filling nozzle of the filling head, into successive containers presented to the filling station and past a sealing station which is intermediate the sealing station and discharge point, the sealing station having sealing means for sealing the top of each filled container. The sleeve means is received onto a mandrel having a transverse bore at the filling station, the chain of bags is indexed along said process line, and the discharge nozzle moved in synchronism with indexed movement of the chain between an advanced position in which it projects into said transverse bore of the mandrel to fill a container and retracted position.
