摘要: A catheter connection system (32, 340, 394, 634) is defined by a rigid, tubular stem (34, 278, 288, 318, 342, 396, 496, 530, 574, 612) attached at a proximal end thereof to a medical device (016, 222, 246, 274, 312, 366, 636). The stem has one or more engagement barbs (49, 226, 254, 280, 290, 320, 358, 408, 466, 538, 586) encircling and radially, outwardly extending on an exterior surface of the stem. The engagement barbs can be configured having a variety of different sizes and positions. A locking barb (50, 228, 258, 294, 322, 360, 412, 472, 510, 541, 632) also encircles and radially, outwardly extends on the exterior surface of the stem. The locking barb is positioned between the medical device and the engagement barbs. A variety of fastening assemblies (57, 300, 304, 328, 414, 480, 492, 555, 600) are provided for inwardly compressing a portion of a body wall (53, 83, 376) of a selected catheter (54, 58, 244, 302, 330, 386, 416, 474, 518, 544, 594), chosen from two or more catheters, against the engagement barbs or locking barb on the stem when the stem is received in the lumen (54, 58, 244, 302, 330, 386, 416, 474, 518, 544, 594) of the selected catheter. The fastening assemblies create a mechanical joinder and liquid-tight seal between the selected catheter and the stem.

摘要: A method is described for labeling containers (22, 30 and 44) with a label (12, 32 and 40) that facilitates a de-labeling process. During the labeling process, a frangible region (34 and 42) is formed on the label (12, 32 and 40) which is then applied to containers (22, 30 and 44). After consumer use, the labeled containers (22, 30 and 44) are collected for de-labeling. In the de-labeling process, a mechanical force is applied to the frangible region (34 and 42) which causes the label (12, 32 and 40) to flag outwardly from the container (22, 30 and 44). A separating device then removes the label (12, 32 and 40) from the container (22, 30 and 44). The de-labeled container (22, 30 and 44) may then be cleaned for reuse and provided with a fresh label.

摘要: A structurally supported graft (10) having a support structure (26) with strain relief sections (30) contained with an internal surface, an external surface, or a wall thickness of a tubular graft member (12). The structurally supported graft (10) may include a beading element (24) which is coextruded with the support structure (26) having strain relief sections (30) and spiraled about the tubular graft (10). The support structure (26) includes differing types of strain relief sections (30) which are capable of allowing for the longitudinal and radial expansion of the structurally supported graft, respectively. The strain relief sections may also include unconnected ends which form outwardly protruding barbs (62) upon expansion of the structurally supported graft for anchoring the graft within a blood vessel or body lumen. The method for making the structurally supported graft includes selecting or preparing a support structure with strain relief sections, co-extruding the structural support with a beading element, forming a spiral about the tubular graft with the co-extruded structure, and securing the co-extruded structure to the tubular graft.

摘要: Improved methods for managing a population of metal components subject to fatigue failure are provided. The residual compressive stress in the critical surfaces of such components, especially in areas of high stress concentration, are measured non-destructively using x-ray diffraction techniques. The measured surface residual compressive stress is used as a management criterion. A component having a surface residual compressive stress greater than a predetermined value can be returned to service. However, once the measured surface residual compressive stress of a component falls below the predetermined value, it can either be removed permanently from service, or it can be reworked to increase its surface residual compressive stress and then returned to service. Additionally, by measuring the surface residual compressive stress of an individual component, the remaining service life of that individual component can be estimated. These methods for management of polulations of such metal components allow for increasing the service life of the components in a safe and effective manner. Methods are also provided for the manufacture and/or design of metal parts with improved performance criterion (e.g., reduction in weight) while maintaining acceptable service life. Methods are also provided for establishing quality control procedures using surface residual compressive stress measurements during and/or after the manufacturing process in order to prevent, for example, introduction of metal parts having insufficient surface residual compressive stress levels for their intended use.

摘要: A combination of a belt fastener (10) having upper and lower plates (12, 14) joined by arcuate hinge loops (16a, 16b) and staples (18a, 18b) pre-assembled in apertures formed in the upper plates is provided with staples (18a, 18b) cooperating with the plates (12, 14) to capture an end of a belt (70) between the plates. The edges of the apertures (26-32) provide the staples with vertically spaced areas of interference fit with combination of the pre-assembled staples (18a, 18b) and fasteners being effective to reduce the time required to install these plate-type fasteners on belt ends (70) while also holding the staples (18a, 18b) in an upright, pre-set position against forces that would otherwise cause the staple to slide against the aperture edges until a sufficient driving force is applied for driving the legs (34, 36) through belt material to attach the fastener on a belt end (70).

摘要: This invention is a game which comprises a set of two-dimensional (Figs. 1, 3) or three-dimensional (Figs. 4-9) game pieces of the same size and geometrical configuration and a method of playing with this game set, with or without a computer. In preferred embodiment, each game piece has a square-shaped playing surface. Each of the four sides of each playing surface of each game piece has a selected visible indicia. The criteria determining how the indicia are to be arranged on the sides are mathematically selected so as to permit the use of the game as a mathematical puzzle. The game pieces are arranged in a mutually abutting side-by-side relationship (Fig. 2B), whereby the indicia on each of the sides may match and align with the indicia on respective abutting sides of other game pieces of the set, and with the top surfaces of the abutting game pieces forming a square (Fig. 2C).
