The present invention relates to an optoelectronic measuring scale for determining and indicating the position of light incident on the measuring scale and emitted from a beam source. The measuring scale is a composite unit which includes a profiled body (19), a row of discrete photoelements (25) which are fixedly mounted on a circuit board (24) or like device in the body (19) and which are connected to a microprocessor (26) attached to the circuit board (24); in that mounted in the measuring scale is a diffusor (32) which functions to distribute the radiation intensity such that incident light in the measuring scale will be distributed over a plurality of mutually adjacent photoelements (25); and in that the microprocessor (26) functions to detect and compare the intensity of the light emitted by respective photoelements (25) and, subsequent to calculating the centre-of-gravity of the broadened intensity curve, produces output currents which cause the exact position of the light beam on the measuring scale to be indicated on a display (27) connected to the measuring scale.

The location of and the distances between the scales are stored in a computer (9). On the front wheels (1) lasers (7) are arranged. These lasers have fastening means for the fastening on the vehicle wheels (1,3) and emit light beams (7'and 7'') in two opposite directions. The scales are connected to the computer. At measuring the front wheels are rotated on the rolls (2) or on the ground so that the two opposed laser beams (7',7'') are projected on the scales. For each scale the computer uses the point exactly between the two projection points to calculate the rotational plane of the wheel and thus the toe-in and camber angles.

L'échelle de mesure est une unité composite comprenant un corps profilé (19), une rangée de photoéléments séparés (25) montés fixes sur une carte de circuits imprimés (24) ou sur un dispositif analogue dans le corps (19) et qui sont reliés à un microprocesseur (26) connecté à la carte de circuits imprimés (24); sur l'échelle de mesure est également monté un diffuseur (32) qui distribue l'intensité du rayonnement de sorte que la lumière incidente dans l'échelle de mesure est répartie sur un ensemble de photoéléments (25) adjacents les uns aux autres; le microprocesseur (26) détecte et compare l'intensité de la lumière émise par les photoéléments respectifs (25) et, après avoir calculé le centre de gravité de la courbe d'intensité élargie, il produit des courants de sortie qui permettent l'indication de la position exacte du faisceau de lumière sur l'échelle de mesure, à l'aide d'un affichage (27) relié à l'échelle de mesure.
