Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a measurement setup for determination of optical properties of a device under test (DUT) (6) in both directions in transmission and in reflection, comprising: a coding device (81, 281, 201, 202, 203) distinguishable coding at least two parts (80-f1, 80-f2) of a provided measurement signal (80), feeding elements (4a, 4b) feeding the at least two parts (80-f1, 80-f2) into the DUT (6) from both directions, receiving elements (106, 206, 108, 208) receiving the signals from both directions transmitted and reflected by the DUT (6), identifying at least the coded parts (80-f1, 80-f2) in the signals transmitted and reflected by the DUT (6), and analyzing at least the identified parts (80-f1, 80-f2) to determine at least one optical property of the DUT (6) from both directions in transmission and in reflection.

Abstract: A first optical signal with a first polarization state is received by a polarization conversion unit. From this first optical signal, a set of n derived optical signals with n different well-defined polarization states i, i = 1, ..., n, is generated, whereby n is a natural number greater than one. Said n different well-defined polarization states are chosen such that polarization dependent measurement errors of the n derived optical signals cancel each other when averaged irrespective of the first optical signal's polarization state. Therefore, polarization dependent measurement errors can be reduced or even eliminated.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device (1) for machining an insulated fiber (4) that is formed by an optical fiber (5) provided with an insulation (6). Said device comprises a holding device (2) in which the fiber (4) to be machined can be placed and which fixes the insulated fiber (4) placed therein. The device also comprises a grip jaw array (8) having two grip jaws (9). In an initial position, a segment (13) projecting beyond the holding device (2) of the insulated fiber (4) that is fixed in said holding device (2) extends in-between said grip jaws. The grip jaws can be displaced relative to one another and crosswise in relation to the fiber (4). Said grip jaws clamp a segment of the fiber insulation to be removed in a holding position. A cutting (11) device is also provided which cuts the insulation (6) to be removed crosswise relative to the fiber (4). The holding device (2) and the grip jaw array (8) can be displaced relative to one another and parallel to the fiber (4), whereby the fiber (5) is stationary relative to the holding device (2) when the holding device (2) and the grip jaw array (8) are displaced relative to one another while the insulation (6) that has been cut is stationary relative to the grip jaw array (8). In order to configure a particularly compact device, said device also has a splitting device (12) that splits the fiber (5) that is clamped and tensed between the holding device (2) and the grip jaw array (8) in a non-insulated segment by exerting tension crosswise relative to the fiber (5).
