    摘要: A large piston (50) initially acts to supply a large volume of braking fluid to a brake port (30) by way of a check valve (118) disposed in a small piston (52) working in a chamber (104) in communication with the brake port (30). When the pressure in this chamber (104) reaches a certain level a pin (132) lifts a relief valve ball (136) off its seat and vents the large piston chamber (88) to a reservoir line (22), via various passages in the large piston (50) and the valve body. The poppet (120) of the check valve and the ball (136) of the relief valve act against oppositely facing seats in a bore through the small piston and the large piston chamber (88) communicates via a passage (114) with this bore, inbetween the two valve seats. Additional venting of the large piston chamber (88) is provided by a direction sensitive valve (80, 86) which provides a venting passage when the large piston (50) is retracting.

    摘要: In order to limit the stroke of the piston of a piston and cylinder unit a spacer collar (10) or collars is or are fitted around the piston rod (30). Each collar (10) comprises a pair of identical cam members (11 a, 11 b) formed with flanges (14,16) at one end. The flanges of one cam member (11a, 11b) are slidable on the complimentary flanges (16, 14) of the other cam member on relative rotation of the cam members. This alters the spacing of abutment surfaces (32) at the other (i.e. outer) ends of the cam members and thus changes the limit of the stroke. The flanges (14, 16) have bolt-receiving slots (22, 24) so that the cam members can be bolted together. The cam members also have U-shaped rod-receiving slots (28) for ease of removal from the rod (30).

    摘要: @ The retraction stroke of a piston and rod (16) is limited by a valve (26) which closes the port to the head chamber (20) of the cyclinder (12). The valve (26) comprises a poppet which is biased to close by a spring but is normally held open by the tensions in a cable (70) extending through a hose (33) from the valve (26) to a fitting (60) closing the distal end of the hose, in which the end of the cable (70) is anchored. The hose is given a slightly sinuous form and tensions the cable (70) by its natural tendency to extend and by virtue of the fluid pressure which is communicated to the inside of the hose from the valve (26). The fitting (60) is supported by a bracket (50) which is moved in by a stop on the piston rod (16) at the end of the retraction stroke to remove the tension from the cable (70) and thereby allow the valve (26) to close and shut off the chamber (20) to prevent further retraction.
